Welcome to the Jet Harris Fan Club website, and firstly I would like to tell you the aim of this website. The main aim is to bring to a wider audience the wealth of material that Dave Wheatley and I have collected about Jet over the years, both prior to actually meeting him, and after, while running his fan club. It is not to report the everyday things happening to Jet now, I have added some excellent links where you can find out about his tours, any current recordings and general information about Jet going forward. Also up to date information can be found on Facebook under Jet Harris Fan Club and there is also a Jet Harris Fan Club section on Friends Reunited. Also this site is dedicated to Jet’s solo career after leaving The Shadows, again there are plenty of sites offering a mountain of information about The Shadows and Jet's involvement with them and I have included some links to these sites. Secondly how did the fan club come into being? Well although I had been a Shadows fan since the early 60's and a Jet Harris fan once he left The Shadows, and had bought all of Jet's records on their day of release, I had never met him. So it was on the 29th March 1985, with my close friend Dave Wheatley, I met him for the very first time. In a way it was this first meeting that sowed the seeds for the fan club that was to follow. At that first meeting Dave and I were able to talk with Jet at length and also show him a number of scrap books that I had made, about him. The next time we met, Jet brought some letters with him from other fans, 'look mates' he said to us, 'you both seem to know more about me than I do, can you answer these letters for me'. The answering of those letters lead to the formation of the fan club which during the late 1980's and throughout the 1990's had a membership of nearly 300, and a monthly newsletter which grew into a monthly magazine. On the 16th April 2003 sadly Dave Wheatley passed away after a long illness, and although I vowed to continue the fan club, I felt, that with the growth of the internet, information about Jet could be accessed instantly and I ceased publication of the magazine. This, of course, does not mean that the fan club has ceased, I can still be contacted via email, letter and telephone. Please visit the site on a regular basis as I will be adding items as often as time will allow. Also if you have anything you would like to add, suggest or dispute, please email me. Thanks for looking Dave Holbrook |
